The “Eveready Bunnies” that make up the volunteer committee of the Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (AVBFB) have done an awful lot of work over the recent years to make the Emergency Services Levy (ESL) equally available to Brigades of ALL the different services in WA. And because of our persistent and fearless work in raising these kinds of issues, we have come a long way toward a more transparent and fair system.
However, the fact is that proportionately, there remains many more DFES-controlled brigades and units (VFRS, VFES etc) that have the necessary fit-outs than there are Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades.
Now, before the keyboard warriors jump on and suggest some sort of “turf war” being mounted, we know that there are many reasons why that fact exists – some with nothing to do with the way the ESL has been administered in the past.
But we will stop talking about the historical imbalance of ESL funding there, because this article is about what can be done despite all that.
The Facebook post below from the amazing folks at the Bedfordale Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade is nothing short of inspiring! And we hope that by sharing their success story to the wide audience we have developed, we can not only give the appropriate kudos to Bunnings Armadale, Clipsal, Edge Vinyl Planking and Versatile Bathroom Renovations for their help but also encourage other local businesses who might be able to help their local Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade with a donation or discount for something they might need.
If you are interested in helping with donations but don’t know who to contact, get in touch with us via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we’ll help you help our amazing members!
Thanks to the businesses mentioned and especially to the team at the Bedfordale Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade because we know a lot of time and effort has been spent in working with your sponsors and no doubt in manual labour!
