MARGARET COCKMAN — COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Statement by Member for Wanneroo
MS S. WINTON (Wanneroo) [12.23 pm]:
Margaret Cockman celebrated her eighty-seventh birthday on 13 April. Margaret started work at the Wanneroo Road Board in 1946 and worked in local government for over five decades before retiring in 1996.
Retire she has not.
Her involvement in organisations such as the Wanneroo Historical Society, the Wanneroo Agricultural Society, the Country Women’s Association, the Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and the St John’s Ambulance Service and many sporting clubs and groups is unmatched. She has been on the committee for the Wanneroo Agricultural Society for over 70 years straight. She has received the Order of Australia Medal, the Centenary
Medal, and the Order of St John. She is a Freeman of the City of Joondalup and the City of Wanneroo. She truly is a living treasure and I am deeply honoured to recognise her in this place.
