The Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades (AVBFB) is proud of its consistent advocacy and support for good ideas that make things better. And here’s one we came across today – the Bushfire Building Conference & Forum 2018, to be hosted by the Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise (BMEE) in the Blue Mountains and sponsored by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and NSW Government.
The event is to be held over three days – 6-7 September being the conference at the Fairmont Resort in Leura and the last day, September 8, being a community forum in the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub in Springwood.
As well as some interesting presentations including the Keynote by NSW Rural Fire Service, an analysis of the 2017 California fires that destroyed nearly 10,000 structures, an analysis of the 2018 Tathra bushfire in NSW and a detailed look at a BAL 29 home that survived the fire and information sessions on Planning For Bushfire Protection, AS3959 and NCC19, the conference also includes something we thought was especially interesting – a field trip around the 2013 Blue Mountains bushfire grounds led by Blue Mountains architect Nigel Bell, who will inform and educate participants about building in bushfire prone areas as they visit rebuilt homes across various BAL zones.
